Sarawak Coins
Sarawak has a unique history as it was once a privately owned nation ruled by the Brooke family from Britain. The Sultan of Brunei awarded it to the English adventurer James Brooke in 1841 for his help putting down a rebellion. James worked on suppressing piracy and headhunting in the area.
Sarawak under the control of the Brooke family, until 1946, when the last of the “White Rajahs”, Charles Vynar Brook, ceded his country to Great Britain. The country suffered heavy destruction during World War II and the family could not afford the cost of rebuilding their nation.
In 1967, Sarawak became a part of the nation of Malaysia.
Coins from Sarawak, espcially the silver coins are scarcer to find in better conditions because during the War World 2, most the the silvers coins were melted down by the Japanese. Mintage for Sarawak coins are limited, thus making these coins a hot favourite among collectors worldwide
